Since 2002, our largest program is an annual STEM conference for girls in grades 6-10, connecting 350-450 girls from around San Diego County with STEM professionals in the San Diego community. Each group of 15-20 girls is mentored by 2-3 female STEM undergraduate students, providing the girls with additional STEM-based interactions. Our goal is to increase the girls’ interest in STEM careers by providing exciting and engaging hands-on learning experiences. In our current pandemic situation, we are excited to provide virtual workshop opportunities for San Diego girls.

In addition to being a great opportunity for young women to learn about STEM careers, we strive to make the conference accessible by providing waivers and coordinating transportation with teachers. As part of our program, we place emphasis on the importance of role models by way of our multi-tiered mentorship, which is accomplished by enabling 6-10th grade girls to engage with near-peer, college-aged guides as well as working STEM professionals. These unique, hands-on opportunities with modern STEM careers provide an opportunity for young women to learn about possible careers they may have interest in.
