The EYH Café is a program for girls in grades 9 – 12, and is designed to bring to light the science, technology, engineering and math found in everyday life. Our engaging hands-on workshops are paired with a fun social setting, and we are part of a national network of Teen STEM Cafés. 
Workshops are typically located in North San Diego County, although we occasionally repeat workshops at sites in other regions of the County. Find an example of a recent workshop here: Science of Self Defense Workshop, May 2018.

“Dolphin Doctor: On the Front Lines of Marine Mammal Medicine” Presented By: The National Marine Mammal Foundation Saturday, April 10th, 2021, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Virtual Event
“Dolphin Doctor: On the Front Lines of Marine Mammal Medicine” is a hands-on workshop focused on marine mammal medicine and technology. Researchers and veterinarians from the National Marine Mammal Foundation share the tools and techniques used to care for marine mammals globally. In this workshop you will participate in a mock veterinary exam and computer-based bioacoustic exercises. In the first part of this workshop, participants explore the unique physiology of marine mammals and how the health of these animals is assessed and monitored. The second part of this workshop explores the novels ways in which the National Marine Mammal Foundation studies hearing and sound production in animals. Marine mammals rely on sound for communication, foraging, navigation and predator avoidance, so understanding their vocalizations and the physiological effects of anthropogenic (human-made) sounds is important. This computer-based part of the workshop explores the novel ways the National Marine Mammal Foundation studies acoustics and guides participants through bioacoustic activities to demonstrate the science of sound and how we measure it.
